Seven years after the Watts Riots when a nation still mourned the loss of its beloved Martin Luther King, Jr. and new Black America was re-finding its footing, Rev. Jesse Jackson inspired the crowd at WattStax in the Coliseum with his powerful delivery of this message – “I AM Somebody!”
That was 48 years ago!
Let that sink in.
Now you can begin to see why the young people in the streets protesting George Floyd’s murder wear the same message today of Black Lives Matter!
We as The People are no longer willing to be denied the freedom, equality and justice we were promised in the United States Constitution and its Amendments. Consider the shortfalls in the Civil War & Re-Construction legislation, in The Voting Rights Act of 1965 and in an endless list of unfulfilled hopes, pledges, promises and legislation.
This must stop. History will continue to repeat itself until we've learned its lesson. Only when we finally embrace The Truth (yes, capitalized for emphasis), the Truth of the History of America and its use as a vehicle for change, will THAT Truth set us ALL free.
